Outlook 2000 SpamAssassin Configuration

If SpamAssassin is set up on your mail server (like mail.your-company-name.tld); you can set up your mail client to filter out spam messages, based on headers that SpamAssassin adds to each message.

IMPORTANT: Please keep in mind that non-spam messages could end up in this folder and spam messages could end up in your Inbox.

  1. Launch Outlook 2000

  2. Select Tools ->Message Rules -> Mail...

    Select Tools, Message Rules, Mail

  3. Click New

    Click New

  4. Put a check in the condition: with specific words in the message header

    Select Condition

  5. Under Rule description, click on specific words

  6. Enter the text X-Spam-Flag: YES (those words exactly, case sensitive) and click OK

    Select Search Text

  7. Now place a check next to move it to the specified folder

    Select Action

  8. Under Rule description, click on the word specified

    Select Destination Folder

  9. Left click (once) on Inbox, then click on the New.. button to create a new folder

  10. Enter Spam in the name field, highlight Inbox and click OK

  11. Click No if prompted about adding a shortcut to this folder

  12. Click on the "plus" sign in front of the Inbox icon, highlight the Spam folder and click OK

  13. Click Finish

    Click Finish

  14. Click OK

    Approve Message Rule

  15. New (marked) messages will now be saved into the folder Spam. You can view these messages by opening (double-clicking) the folder called Spam

IMPORTANT: Please keep in mind that non-spam messages could end up in this folder and spam messages could end up in your Inbox.

To help us improve the accuracy of the SPAM filter please keep all spam in the SPAM folder, if you have any mail that was incorrectly identified as SPAM please move it into the Inbox.
