KMail Configuration for SpamAssassin

If SpamAssassin is set up on your mail server (like mail.your-company-name.tld); you can set up your mail client to filter out spam messages, based on headers that SpamAssassin adds to each message.

IMPORTANT: Please keep in mind that non-spam messages could end up in this folder and spam messages could end up in your Inbox.

 

  1. Launch KMail

  2. Click on Folder -> Create...

    Create a New Folder

  3. In the Name: field, enter Spam and click OK

  4. You should now see a folder labeled, Spam

  5. Click on Settings -> Configure Filters...

  6. Click on the New Folder icon in the lower left

  7. In the text field, type Move to Spam folder and click OK

  8. Confirm that the filter is available

  9. In the Filter Criteria section, proceed with the following:
    1. Place a check in front of Match all of the following
    2. In the first dropdown box, Select <any header>
    3. In the second drop down box, select contains
    4. In the text field, enter X-Spam-Flag: YES (exactly as you see it, case sensitive)

  10. In the Filter Actions section, proceed with the following:
    1. In the first dropdown box, select move to folder
    2. In the second dropdown box, select Spam

  11. Click on Apply, then OK (lower right of the window)

  12. New (marked) messages will now be saved into the folder Spam. You can view these messages by opening (double-clicking) the folder called Spam

IMPORTANT: Please keep in mind that non-spam messages could end up in this folder and spam messages could end up in your Inbox.

To help us improve the accuracy of the SPAM filter please keep all spam in the SPAM folder, if you have any mail that was incorrectly identified as SPAM please move it into the Inbox.
