Evolution Configuration for SpamAssassin

If SpamAssassin is set up on your mail server (like mail.your-company-name.tld); you can set up your mail client to filter out spam messages, based on headers that SpamAssassin adds to each message.

IMPORTANT: Please keep in mind that non-spam messages could end up in this folder and spam messages could end up in your Inbox.

  1. Launch Evolution
  2. Left click (once) on your Inbox so it's highlighted

    Select Inbox

  3. Then right click on it to bring up a menu window

    Create New Folder

  4. Left click on Create New Folder..

  5. Enter SPAM in the Folder Name: field, make sure the Folder Type: is Mail, click on OK

  6. Select Tools then Filters...

    Select Tools, then Filters

  7. Make sure incoming is selected in the dropdown, click Add

    Add New Filter

  8. In the Rule name: field enter Move to Spam Folder

    Name the Rule

  9. While referring to the If box:
    1. In the first dropdown box select Specific header and enter X-Spam-Flag in the text box
    2. In the next dropdown box select contains and enter YES in the text box
  10. Set Requirements

  11. While referring to the Then box:
    1. In the first dropdown box select Move to folder and then click on <click here to select a folder>

    2. Select Destination Folder

    3. In the Select Folder window, click on the SPAM folder, then click on OK

    4. Select Spam Folder

  12. Click OK in the Add Rule window

  13. Confirm Rule Settings

  14. Click OK in the Filters window

    Approve Filter

  15. New (marked) messages will now be saved into the folder Spam. You can view these messages by opening (double-clicking) the folder called Spam

IMPORTANT: Please keep in mind that non-spam messages could end up in this folder and spam messages could end up in your Inbox.

To help us improve the accuracy of the SPAM filter please keep all spam in the SPAM folder, if you have any mail that was incorrectly identified as SPAM please move it into the Inbox.
