Outlook 2002 SpamAssassin Configuration

If SpamAssassin is set up on your mail server (like mail.your-company-name.tld); you can set up your mail client to filter out spam messages, based on headers that SpamAssassin adds to each message.

 

IMPORTANT: Please keep in mind that non-spam messages could end up in this folder and spam messages could end up in your Inbox.

 

  1. Launch Outlook 2002

  2. Select Tools and then Rules Wizard

  3. Click New

  4. In the Rules Wizard window:
    1. Click the dot next to Start creating a rule from a template
    2. Select Move messages based on content
    3. In the Rule description section, click the underlined text that says specific words

  5. In the Search Text window:
    1. Enter [POSSIBLE SPAM] (exactly as you see it here, case sensitive) in the text field
    2. Click Add
    3. Click OK

  6. This should take you back to the Rules Wizard window
    1. In the Rule description section, click the underlined text that says specified folder

  7. In the Rules Wizard window, left click (once) on the Inbox then click on the New... button on the right

  8. Type in Spam as the folder Name: and Click OK

  9. Left click (once) on the Spam folder and click OK

  10. Click Finish in the Rules Wizard window

  11. New (marked) messages will now be saved into the folder Spam. You can view these messages by opening (double-clicking) the folder called Spam.

IMPORTANT: Please keep in mind that non-spam messages could end up in this folder and spam messages could end up in your Inbox.

To help us improve the accuracy of the SPAM filter please keep all spam in the SPAM folder, if you have any mail that was incorrectly identified as SPAM please move it into the Inbox.
